FREC-4 Course | What Is It For?

The Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care, commonly referred to as FREC 4, can be your ticket to becoming a life-saving first responder and joining the frontline ambulance service. On completion of the FREC-4 course, you will be able to recognize a wide range of medical emergencies and respond confidently to save lives. You will also be able to assess patients efficiently and provide effective care while maintaining safe practices. 

1. Initial Patient Assessment

In this module, you will learn how to assess patients accurately and consider their medical history, age, gender, risk factors, and vital signs. You will also be able to identify shock causes and manage them appropriately.

2. Physiological Measurements

You will also learn to accurately measure and record vital parameters such as blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, pulse rate, and respiration rate. You can interpret these measurements and decide the best course of action.

3. Electrocardiogram Application and Monitoring

This module will teach you how to use electrocardiographic equipment correctly and develop an understanding of shockable and non-shockable arrhythmias. You will also be able to analyze ECG test results and identify abnormalities.

4. Psychosocial Development in Children

This module will give you the skills and knowledge needed to assess a child’s psychological, social, and emotional development. You will also be able to identify any areas of concern and provide appropriate advice and support.

5. Emergency Care for Sick and Injured Children

Children are delicate and fragile members of our society and need special care in case of an emergency. The FREC-4 course will equip you with the necessary skills to identify and assess sick or injured children and administer treatment.

6. Mental Health Problems

In this module, you will develop an understanding of the various types of mental health problems and learn how to provide safety to those affected while responding to their needs.

7. Medical gases, Including Dosages and Administration

This module will give you the knowledge to handle and administer medical gases like Oxygen and Entonox. You will learn about the different types of gases, their dosages, and how to store and dispose of them safely.

Yes! Although the FREC 4 course does not include Blue Light Driving Course it is accepted as evidence of your competence and knowledge in this field and typically allows you to be accepted to join the ambulance service as an Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) where you will be put on Blue Light Driving License course by Trust. This course also increases your chances of being hired for jobs requiring advanced first-response emergency care training and experience.
